Sheer white lace skirts and dresses were everywhere this past spring and summer, and this trend continued to show up in the runway shows this season. We witnessed it manifest in lingerie, corsetry, bloomers, slips, dresses, tights and intricate trimmings. This material stands out as a key trend takeaway from fashion month, and these are the SS25 collections we saw it in.

New York

At New York Fashion Week, lace featured prominently across many collections. Kim Shui showcased it with black minis, while Who Decides War opted for an asymmetrical dress. Zoe Whalen presented two stunning gowns, and Rodarte shared the most lace-heavy collection of the season.

London

In London, lace was less prevalent than in New York, but we still saw peekaboo bras at Masha Papova and delicate trimmings on dresses and skirts at Chopova Lowena.

Milan

Dolce & Gabbana was another collection with a prominent amount of lace pieces. In contrast, Valentino took a more discreet approach, incorporating it primarily into accessories like gloves and tights.

Paris

Ann Demeulemeester featured it in a similar vein to Valentino, with it peeking out from collars and sleeves or adorning neckties. For Chloé, it remains a go-to material each season, reinforcing it as one of their mainstays. One of the most interesting interpretations came from Alexander McQueen, with hand-stitched cobweb lace.

Lace at SS25

Lace made notable appearances in a variety of other shows as well, including Ulla Johnson, Carven, Etro, Nina Ricci, The Attico, Balenciaga, Wiederhoeft, LaQuan Smith, Ester Manas, Anna Sui, Christopher Esber, Frederick Anderson, Saint Laurent, Christian Cowan, Eckhaus Latta, Rachel Comey, Tanner Fletcher, Gucci and Ermanno Scervino. What started as a microtrend during Spring/Summer 2024 has clearly grown and evolved as designers continue to incorporate this fabric. While we look ahead to Spring/Summer 2025, we can expect a more expansive range of iterations, further solidifying lace as a key trend in the upcoming season.
